A Brief Overview Honda started as a bicycle manufacturing company in Hamamatsu (Japan) in 1947. It was incorporated in 1948. Honda soon forayed into motorcycles, starting with its first product, 'DreamD' and went ahead to provide its customers with a range ofmotorcycles like 'Super Cub C100', 'Elsinore CR250M'(1972), 'Tact'(1980), 'VFR sportsmotorcycle'(2000) and 'Pantheon' (2003). In the early 1950s,Honda diversified into power equipments and released its first power product engine for agricultural machine in 1953...

Honda's 'Safety' Initiatives Honda's initiative of making cars that would be safe for the pedestrians, concentrated on public education on road safety and enhancing the safety features in its vehicles - both 'Active' and 'Passive' safety. Honda had long been providing training on road safety. It had also established four 'Rider Education Centres' in the US, providing early and advanced training for motorcycle riders, besides actively supporting campaigns on the use of seat belts....

Unsafe Roads It was observed that most pedestrians got hurt by the front end of cars and if collision speed went above 45 kilometers/hour, the chance of the victim's survival was less than 50%. The indecisiveness of the pedestrians while crossing the roads, the impairment of drivers due to alcohol, and drugs and estrangement were cited as some of the major reasons for road accidents due to automobiles...
